A web journal of Rev. Joel and Susan Schlachtenhaufen's trip to Sibiu/Hermannstadt, Romania, to work in cooperation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church to provide offerings in English.
It has been so good to come here and begin to learn from and about our friends in Transylvania and Romania. Honestly said, for much of our lives, Transylvania was a movie locale and Romania was a mysterious part of the Soviet bloc. It is important to fill our information voids and to seek to displace sterotypes and misinformation accumulated over the years.
We are reminded here of how propaganda and misinformation have never done us or anybody any favors. However, we spend enough time these days with our trusty laptop to see that the flow of misinformation continues. The “Muslim postage stamp” and “popcorn-popping cell phones” hoaxes have recently reappeared, for example. We encourage you to fact check those things that seem too crazy or too bad to be true. We have found “Snopes.com” to be quite trustworthy.
Truth, as close as we can get to it, is a good and helpful thing.
