1. Earth Day in Romania 2010

Today, April 22, 2010, is EARTH DAY in the U.S.  We are so pleased to be connected with the Lutheran Church in Sibiu which models environmental stewardship.  The congregation has programs of awareness-raising, reforestation, composting, recycling, solar energy, rain water collection, and energy efficient window installation.  A church compound on the outskirts of the city is envisioned to also be a Center for Environmental Science and Youth Retreats.

In Romania it is National Volunteer Day.  A group of youth came to the city center for an anti-littering/pro-recycling action — picking up a week’s worth of plastic bottles and stringing them along the three-block-long pedestrian way  on which our apartment is located.

Our most recent visit to the Hammersdorf church is pictured here.

Google “evang.ro/hermannstadt” for the congregation’s website — all in German with a bit of English.
